This hackneyed theme is revitalized by the beauty and life-force that Binoche and Denis bring to the character - and of course, the intellectual yet liberating French perspective. In the final scene with clairvoyant Gerard Depardieu, from which the image above is taken, she seeks guidance and affirmation. She receives this...along with yet another possible suitor.
