APRIL 29 - MAY 1: CHALLENGING CANCER MOON

MOON IN GEMINI until 5:38pm EDT on Saturday, April 29. SEE APRIL 27 FOR GEMINI INFO. At this time it goes VOID OF COURSE and remains there until MOON ENTERS CANCER at 9:48pm.  Important actions initiated during the V/C period tend not to work out as planned. It's best to use this time for inner creative work or planning future action. MOON REMAINS IN CANCER until Monday, May 1 at 4:23pm when it goes VOID OF COURSE for the rest of the day. LAST ASPECT OF MOON; Moon Square Uranus in Aries. This Last Aspect is likely to reflect some emotional upset that occurs during this period. Cancer Moons can indicate a sensitive time when we take things personally and hang on to resulting hurt feelings. Try to move through the bad mood and stay in the Present as much as possible. The Moon in its own sign reflects the archetype of THE FEMININE. Mothers and daughters are center stage. The drive to protect those we love is strong. It's quite possible that our inner dependence, perhaps on family, is at odds with a need for freedom. Try be straightforward and speak your truth with care and consciousness. If you can express Uranus in Aries in its most optimum way, with courage, clarity and strong sense of self while simultaneously honoring family, you may be able to resolve the tension of willfulness and separation this square reflects. Otherwise actions initiated during this Moon period will tend to have CHALLENGING results and Cancer's cocoon of safety and nourishment is broken.

SCENE FOR THE DAY: Bend It Like Beckham, 2002. Director: Gurinder Chada. Keira Knightly and Parminder Nagra lead a spectacular cast in this now classic independent film. This scene demonstrates what's possible when Jess (Nagra), an independent soccer-playing daughter of a traditional Indian family speaks her Truth. She loves her family and wants to honor them, but is also driven to live her own life. Her choice may seem willful to those close to her, and it will cause her to separate from them, but she is able to find her way to honorable individuation.

APRIL 27-29: CHALLENGING GEMINI MOON

MOON REMAINS IN TAURUS until 9:18pm EDT on Thursday, April 27 when it goes VOID OF COURSE until 9:39pm. SEE APRIL 25 FOR TAURUS INFO. Important practical actions initiated during V/C Moon tend to not work out as planned or desired. It's best to use this energy for inner creative work or planning for future action. MOON ENTERS GEMINI at 9:39pm and remains here until Saturday, April 29 at 5:38pm. LAST ASPECT OF MOON: Moon Opposite Saturn in Sagittarius.  Ruled by Mercury, this Mutable Air sign reflects the gathering of information and mentally processing it. Gemini, winged Messenger of the Gods, reflects the inclination to engage in conversation and travel, however, the Saturn Last Aspect indicates that these activities will be blocked or unsuccessful in some way, most likely from external sources. We may encounter exaggerations of the Truth or ethical considerations that hinder our intentions. Check and double check information that comes your way before you act on it. Also check vehicles and schedules, especially because Mercury is still Retrograde and is likely to symbolize delays or breakdowns. Keep your cool and prepare in advance for these changes.

SCENE FOR THE DAY: The Dinner, 2017; Director Oren Moverman. What could be more Geminian Moon Opposite Saturn in Sag than heightened dinner conversation meeting a moral brick wall. Two brothers (sound like Gemini?) played so elegantly by Richard Gere and Steve Coogan, confront a long term family conflict while trying to determine the best action to take to protect their respective sons. Fresh from its world premier at this week's Tribeca Film Festival this provocative narrative questions both personal and social ethical dilemmas. Though I found the first act of the screenplay somewhat annoying, due to Coogan's character hitting his own emotional cinder block wall one too many times, the story changes gears and becomes an incredibly relevant and compelling drama. Rebecca Hall and Laura Linney round out the cast, all with powerful and believable performances.

APRIL 26-27: GOOD TAURUS NEW MOON

MOON REMAINS IN ARIES until 5:53pm EDT on Wednesday, April 26, when it goes VOID OF COURSE until 9:56pm. SEE APRIL 23 FOR ARIES MOON. Actions initiated during V/C period tend not to work out as planned. It's best to use this energy for inner creative work or planning for future action. MOON ENTERS TAURUS at 9:56pm and remains until Thursday, April 27 at 9:18pm. LAST ASPECT OF MOON: Moon Sextile Venus in Pisces.  NEW MOON EXACT: Wednesday, April 26 at 8:16am.  This would be an Excellent Day for purchases if Mercury were direct! We'll give a GOOD evaluation because it's so strong otherwise. It would be GREAT to exchange something that didn't work out previously or to RE-DO something from the past. Taurus is ruled by Venus, so it's strong with this Last Aspect. The arenas of providing Security (think money) for loved ones, Beauty, Art and Sensuous Experiences should be at the top of your list now. This Fixed Earth sign also signifies attention on property. If anything on your land requires being done over to get it right, this would be a good time for it. Notice if you're being too fixed in your ways and begin to imagine yourself being more flexible. Great day to indulge yourself in artful and sensuous activities! The Taurus NEW MOON period emphasizes the beginning of a new cycle for re-building.

SCENE FOR THE DAY: I Am Love, 2009; Director: Luca Guadagnino. One of my all-time favorite films. This scene, featuring Tilda Swinton and Edoardo Gabbriellini as forbidden lovers, gives you a taste of the sensuous quality of the movie. The Beauty of Italy, the Food, the Love, Nature...as well as the Tragedy. It is a feast for all the senses. Taurus is honored.

APRIL 23-25: GOOD ARIES MOON

MOON IN PISCES until 5:34pm EDT on Sunday, April 23, when it goes VOID OF COURSE until 8:32pm. Actions initiated during th V/C period tend not to work out as planned. It's best to use this time for inner creative work or planning for future action. SEE APRIL 21 FOR MOON IN PISCES. MOON ENTERS ARIES at 8:32pm where it remains until Tuesday, April 25 at 5:53pm. LAST ASPECT OF MOON: Moon Trine Saturn in Sagittarius. There is no greater initiator than Mars-ruled Aries. This number one Fire sign is also, Cardinal, that which begins something - the creative spark. This is a GOOD TIME to take action with grounded support from Saturn to complete your project successfully. You should be able to tap into your leadership skills and your courage while drawing from sources of discipline and practicality to manifest your vision. MERCURY IS STILL RETROGRADE, so check and double check information, especially for travel and schedules, and don't let your passionate imagination and impulsiveness get the best of you. Be conscious of how you express your frustration at any conflicts that Aries Moon may offer. Try to access the opposite end of the Aries axis, which is Libra, to find your way to compromise and negotiation.

SCENE FOR THE DAY: Invictus, 2009; Director: Clint Eastwood. Both Nelson Mandela, new president of South Africa and Francois Pienaar, captain of his primarily white rugby team, represent Aries' reflection of leadership, independence and courage. Aries is also the athlete, taking all these qualities and adding to them physical energy and passionate directed drive. Mandela's strategy of encouraging Piennar to urge his team to victory for the benefit of the country has a highly successful result.

APRIL 21-23: GOOD PISCES MOON

MOON REMAINS IN AQUARIUS on Friday, April 21 until 2:23pm EDT. SEE April 19. MOON GOES VOID OF COURSE at this time until 3:43pm. Actions initiated during V/C Moon tend not to work out as planned. It's best to use this time for inner/creative work. At 3:43pm the MOON ENTERS PISCES where it remains until Sunday, April 23 at 5:34pm. LAST ASPECT OF MOON: Moon Conjunct Venus in Pisces. Because the Neptune-ruled Pisces is more comfortable in unconscious seas of dream states, the imagination and the past, the current Retrograde Mercury should actually support emotional and creative musings. Take out your journal and record your sleeping journeys now as the symbolism is likely to be informative. We won't tend to be as structured and precise in our thoughts, allowing us to access numinous realities otherwise not available to our logical minds. Neptune is the higher resonance or collective expression of Venus; this relationship should allow us to touch the  higher love so beautifully expressed by poets. Art, music and the experience of all other aesthetically pleasing forms of romantic Beauty is available to us now. Try to take advantage of this unusual time for your artwork and inner evolution. While being alert to the illusions of Neptune, let yourself swim with the cosmic flow!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PhW0E6X6V90
SCENE FOR THE DAY: The Young Victoria, 2009; Director: Jean-Marc Vallée. Emily Blunt and Rupert Friend are the young Victoria and Albert. This film leads us through their courtship, marriage and reign until Albert's early death. It is the stuff of Neptunian fairytale, a place where reality and romantic love meet. In this scene, we witness their courtship turns to mutual love, as the dolly-zoom camera effect (dollying back while the lens zooms towards the new Queen) indicates; as she scans the room her eyes land on him and the sight of him steals her breath away. The aesthetics of music, dance and costume does both Neptune and Venus proud.

And Speaking of Poetry...Treat yourself to Coleman Barks reading his translation of Rumi's Love Dogs. It doesn't get any better than this!

APRIL 19-21: GOOD AQUARIUS MOON

MOON IN AQUARIUS, the Water Bearer, from 6:52am EDT on Wednesday, April 19 until Friday, April 21 at 2:23pm. LAST ASPECT OF MOON: Moon Sextile Mercury Retrograde in Aries. If Mercury were not Retrograde, this configuration would indicate an Excellent resolution. Uranus, which is the modern ruler of Aquarius, is the considered the 'higher vibration' of Mercury (if Mercury reflects personal communications and travel, Uranus symbolizes collective thought or evolved consciousness or technological mind or travel), so the Last Aspect to this planet would suggest a highly successful evaluation. With Mercury's apparent movement backwards in its orbit (retrograde), however, all bets are off! Areas of communication, especially the internet and all digital equipment are at risk now. While opportunities may present themselves involving communities, friends, organizations or goals, they may also include misunderstood, upsetting or unusual communications or travel. Aquarius Moons can feel detached, especially with the Retrograde Mercury, so remember not to take things too personally. This could also be a significant time for higher consciousness experiences to offer a re-evaluation or re-do of the past. If you check and double check what appears to be fact and it remains accurate it is quite possible to have GOOD results for actions initiated during this Moon period.
NOTE: SUN ENTERS TAURUS Wednesday, April 19th at 5:26pm EDT.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_daZiFthXQ&t=1s
SCENE FOR THE DAY:Deja Vu; 2006; Director: Tony Scott. Denzel, as government agent Doug Carlin, joins forces with top-secret computer geeks to go back in time to change the past - a classic sci-fi template. The Aquarian-ruled technology of the digital futuristic-esque mise-en-scene (screen composition) offers Carlin the opportunity (sextile) to time travel back to re-do a situation (Mercury retrograde): save a woman's life and prevent a terrorist attack on a ferry boat carrying hundreds of military personnel. Action-packed and great visuals!

APRIL 16-19: CHALLENGING CAPRICORN MOON

After a VOID OF COURSE afternoon beginning at 2:26pm EDT on Sunday, April 16, the MOON ENTERS CAPRICORN at 7:05pm where it remains until Wednesday, April 19 at 5:57am. LAST ASPECT OF MOON: Moon Square Sun in Aries. Actions initiated during V/C period tend not to work out as planned. It's best to utilize this time for inner creative work. Our eagerness to succeed in some business endeavor or project is likely to result in an impulsive move which undermines our success. Ruled by Saturn, this Cardinal Earth sign reflects the Mountain Goat climbing the ladder of ambition. Capricorn's usual slow, sure-footed preparation is likely to be undermined by Mars-ruled Aries' too-quick decisions. Saturn/Capricorn rules the skeletal system and teeth (systems that are hard or crystalized and form structures) so be especially conscious that your sudden Aries movements don't result in accidents which do damage to these areas. Get serious, take no shortcuts. Slow down enough to find your discipline and practicality in order to make the most of this Moon. Otherwise, you may incur Mars-ruled Aries anger from others and actions initiated at this time will tend to have Challenging results.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I5cS0_op1IE

SCENE FOR THE DAY: Risky Business, 1983; Screenwriter and Director: Paul Brickman. In Tom Cruise's fourth out of forty-six films, he hits it out of the park in his role as Joel, Chicago high school senior who, as member of the Future Entrepreneurs develops a 'human fulfillment' enterprise with Lana (Rebecca De Mornay). His venture moves forward too quickly and gets out of hand. In this scene we see Joel being threatened when he discovers he's about to infringe upon another man's career. This film has been compared to The Graduate - it's reflective main character takes on what it means to be an adolescent grappling with sex, guilt, money as well as his future. And...it's a comedy. A remarkably well-done comedy. Cruise shows us here the original substance that lies beneath his subsequent superficial form, hunky as it may be.

APRIL 14-16: CHALLENGING SAGITTARIUS MOON

MOON IN SAGITTARIUS from 6:27am EDT on Friday, April 14 until Sunday, April 16 at 2:26pm. LAST ASPECT OF MOON: Moon Conjunct Saturn in Sagittarius. Our natural exuberance and optimism during the Jupiter-ruled Sag Moon may feel deflated now with serious Saturn in the picture. Saturn's archetype of constriction and karmic lessons can dampen anyone's enthusiasm - even to the degree of depression. We may not express our true feelings, especially with women. It is possible, however, that we are able to focus on Saturn's more positive symbolic interpretation: Sagittarius' Mutable Fire quality, which can take the form of exaggeration or self-inflation, can be supported by Saturn's reality check bringing us back down to earth. Get a respected objective opinion from another. Find some kind of container/ grounding for your wise intuitive powers now and the stars are the limit! Unless you do, actions initiated during this period are more likely to have CHALLENGING results.

NOTE: The effects of this Moon are likely to feel heightened because of Saturn's presence at 27 Sag, which is considered the current location of the Galactic Center. Because such strong gravitational and electric forces are thought to emanate from the GC, the experience of our emotional life is likely to be stronger than usual and perhaps more meaningful. Our Sagittarius intuition may be right on the mark now. Try to take pause for consideration. Sagacity comes from the same root as this zodiacal sign. According to the Merriam Webster Dictionary, the Latin adjective sagus means prophetic. SEE PREVIOUS POST FOR MORE INFORMATION ON SATURN AT THE GLACTIC CENTER.

SCENE FOR THE DAY: The Empire Strikes Back 1980; Director: Irvin Kershner; Story by: George Lucas. Mentioning the Force of the Galactic Center can take us nowhere else but the unforgettable sagacious teachings of the magical creature Yoda. In this scene he trains Luke, played by Mark Hamill, about the power of belief and the invisible 'stuff' of which we are made. That the quote related to this Force has become a globally understood expression is not only an indication of its believed potent reality, but of the power of story and cinema to disseminate it.

SATURN AT THE GALACTIC CENTER

Thursday April 6, Saturn Stationed Retrograde at 27 degrees Sagittarius, a point on the zodiac which is considered the current location of the Galactic Center. The core of our Milky Way Galaxy is believed to be a black hole which emits an enormous gravitational pull as well as electromagnetic radio waves that strongly affect bodies within the galaxy. The GC is also thought to be the source of energy that holds the Milky Way's spiraled form together. Astrological data suggests that planets aligned with the 27 Sagittarius point have an enhanced charge to their archetypal meaning. That Saturn lingers here, (exact from March 6 through May 7, 2017 and November 24 through December 2)  suggests that this entire period is more than worthy of our attention.

THE SATURN ARCHETYPE

Saturn symbolizes our concept of Reality which, for materially oriented mindsets living on a material plane, has been directly associated with manifesting form. The physical realm, then, becomes the ultimate evidence for evaluating reality. Because form and structure limit space, we also relate the concept of constraint and limitation to this sixth planet from the Sun. Our experience of limitation often yields some manner of pain. Saturn has also been called the planet of karmic lessons. While all planetary configurations are said to reflect elements that our soul or psyche requires in order to grow into our whole Self, Saturn describes the tests we encounter in order to achieve psychological liberation from suffering.
Buddhist Wheel of Life: Liberation from Karma

In several philosophical systems, this suffering is thought to be due to excessive attachments in the material, mental and emotional arenas. The Saturn archetype symbolizes the hard work, discipline and responsibility necessary to learn the karmic lesson and free ourselves psychologically. It also represents Kronos, the harsh passing of Father Time, which we often experience as limiting. From this description we can begin to see how Saturn's alignment to the primal force of the Galactic Center would be particularly loaded, both personally and collectively.

THE MARRIAGE OF OPPOSITES

While Saturn is in the sign of Sagittarius, which is ruled by Jupiter, there is an inherent polarity or opposition to the experience it reflects. Saturn symbolizes contraction, Jupiter/Sag expansion. We may feel drawn towards the bigger picture of philosophy, intuition or faith followed by a pulling back towards the known sense of material reality, reason and doubt . Psychological astrologer Liz Greene suggests this placement might express "a great sensitivity to the plight of humanity as a group, but (that) there is often a tendency toward depression or lack of hope in the individual's own future."1

The Sacred Marriage
What is suggested here is the concept of the marriage of opposites or the alchemical sacred marriage - conjunctio. The opposition is a fundamental theme in astrology if we look at the polar structure of the horoscope's signs and houses. It tends to create a tension between the two activated areas. While so many of us have been trained to default to an 'either/or' separative duality in our reasoning - emphasizing one end of the axis and remaining unconscious or indifferent to the other - we are asked instead to consider the inclusive perspective by honoring the two poles equally. With Saturn in Sagittarius, tension exists between Saturn's reflection of outer accomplishments in one's career, the drive for respect through hard work, discipline and practicality - and Jupiter's quest for inner values of Truth, wisdom and freedom; the pessimistic attitude that life is against us vs. an optimistic lighter belief that we belong to a universe which supports us. The marriage of these opposites would offer us the ability to trust during stressful periods while maintaining humility during our triumphs. We also might see the Freedom in Responsibility. Greene suggests that instead of falling victim to a meaningless life, one might see Saturn’s karmic lesson here as a challenge to develop the intuitive faculty in order to apprehend one’s authentic nature and one's true role in relation to the group and life in general.2

While Saturn transits through Sagittarius, then, it offers us the opportunity to practice marrying these opposite archetypes. Energized by the Galactic Center, this lesson appears to be timely and profound. I might add here that this inclusive perspective is an element of the Feminine principle toward which, according to Richard Tarnas, our current epistemological paradigm is unfolding.3

Pay attention to the ideas, circumstances and relationships that come your way during this period. If you know the placement of Saturn in your natal chart, you will be aware of the area of your life that is being tested. It is here where you are most likely to feel personal limitations and where you are required to release your attachment. More pertinent to this post, notice where transiting Saturn at 27 Sagittarius falls in your chart. This would indicate the location of current challenges and opportunities for growth. But these trials are not only for individual souls. Collectives, such as countries or cultures, are also tested - the anima mundi, or soul of the world, if you will.
Tiny House Movement
How might this be evident? Look to where themes of contraction show themselves in public life. The growing interest in Minimalist lifestyles comes to mind. More and more informed people are investigating how they can reduce or limit their expenditures, collections of physical things, their environmental footprint. While the internet expands the scope of our connections and we watch with anticipation the numbers of Friends on social media climb, Saturn's now-heightened symbol may reflect the urgency to go deeper than the literal and visible form of quantity in order to evaluate and appreciate the invisible nature of quality, meaning and value of our relationships - not to feel the pressure to expand our associations so broadly that we don't have time or energy to nurture those closer to home. We are continually given clues which help us make wise choices, if we honor the symbols that point the way.

THE URANUS WAKE-UP CALL

US Transit Chart - June 1, 2017
Interestingly this June, Uranus The Awakener, at 27 Aries makes a 120-degree Trine to Saturn's position (exact in May at 26 degrees) while making a 90-degree square to the US natal Pluto. This suggests a strong wake-up call to change our behavior. Uranus makes its last pass over this point on April 9, 2018 and soon after, in May, begins its seven-year journey through Taurus. This is a critical time for the US to make radical shifts in its perspectives: our lifestyles, our values, our economy, our self- governing strategies including our drive towards Empire and our overriding paradigms including our epistemology - what we believe to be True. Uranus in the Fixed Earth sign of Taurus is in its Fall and may not find positive change as accessible. Indeed, it is likely be a time of economic revolution, when letting go of exaggerated value on material accumulation, the cushy life, will be required.

Notice that the US natal chart (the inner circle) has Pluto at 27 Capricorn and the Moon at 27 Aquarius...the 27th degree being the operative highlight of this post. Saturn at the Galactic Center triggers these points. While destructive (and regenerative) Pluto is most assuredly engaged, our all-important Uranus-ruled Aquarian Moon, which rules our Cancer Sun, is being Sextiled by this transiting Saturn, offering us a liberating humanitarian perspective. The transiting Nodal Axis at 27 Leo/Aquarius is exactly aligned with the Moon suggesting circumstances are, simply put, fated.

THE SATURN/PLUTO CYCLE

Remember - an even bigger picture shows us that we are moving towards another dramatic moment when, in January 2020, Saturn conjuncts Pluto at 22 and 23 degrees Capricorn and the new 33 year- long Saturn/Pluto cycle begins. This point is particularly interesting as it is only four degrees away from the US natal Pluto position at 27 Capricorn (our Pluto Return). Karmic lessons in tearing down old traditional structures that no longer serve us and the creation of more appropriate paradigms are likely to predominate during this new cycle. The US Pluto Return, which opposes natal Mercury in Cancer in the 8th house, suggests an evolution to our values of wealth and power as well as how we communicate these concepts to others. The Pluto Return occurs from Feb. '22 through Oct. '23.

US Transit Chart at 9/11
During its cycle we look for critical angles between the two planets to notice how the archetypes are playing out. For example, on 9/11 Pluto opposed Saturn, a climactic 180 degree angle - a half-way point in its cycle - right on the Ascendant/Descendant axis of the US Chart (Sibly). This might be referred to as 'the enemy at the gate' or the lens through which we see the world is being transformed (destroyed and regenerated). Because the Ascendant/Descendant axis reflects the dynamic between ourselves and others (relationships) it can represent a radical shift in our connections with other countries. Richard Tarnas makes the point that, "...the first Saturn-Pluto cycle of the twentieth century correlated closely to the world wars and the second with the Cold War."4 We can see in the composite chart right above how strong these planetary archetypes have been for the US.

Saturn is demonstrating its calling as Teacher of Karmic Lessons now. If we learn to marry the opposites as well as honor the awakening of Uranus and the optimistic faith of Jupiter... and evolve into the inclusive Feminine principle, we might snap out of denial long enough to act responsibly and find the freedom that will guide our way home.

APRIL 11-14: FULL MOON IN LIBRA ➔ VOID OF COURSE AFTERNOON ➔ GOOD SCORPIO MOON

FULL MOON IN LIBRA is exact at 2:08am EDT on Tuesday April 11. After this time the heightened effects of the Full Moon tend to wane. MOON GOES VOID OF COURSE from 2:19pm until 6:42pm. At this time the MOON ENTERS SCORPIO where it remains until Friday, April 14 at 0:17am. LAST ASPECT OF MOON: Moon Trine Venus in Pisces. During the Void of Course period, important practical actions initiated tend not to work out as planned, especially since we're also in the most vulnerable period of the current Mercury Retrograde cycle (the 3-4 days before and after the Station Retrograde on the 9th).  It's best to use this time for inner creative work or planning for future action. While normally this would be an excellent time for purchases or investments (because both Pluto and Venus reflect resources/money and the Last Aspect Trine to Venus is so positive) this double whammy of indeterminant energy indicates that purchases, as much as we might be tempted, won't work out. The Scorpio Moon occurring with these other indicators, could also reflect the return of a purchase previously made. Perhaps this is a good time to do research in this area and plan for future action. Pluto/Scorpio also symbolizes regeneration. It would be of great benefit to use this resourceful time to revisit emotional wounds and find alternative perspectives that offer healing.

SCENE FOR THE DAY: Antwone Fisher, 2002; Director: Denzel Washington. This scene, featuring Derek Luke as Antwone and Viola Davis as his estranged mother, is a poignant example of finding a new psychological perspective that facilitates a young man's healing process. The anger Antwone feels about being abandoned by his family begins its successful resolution with this conversation. He realizes that even if he never sees her again, it was critical to meet and forgive her, as his military psychologist, played by Denzel, recommended. This award-winning movie is Washington's more than impressive directorial debut.

APRIL 9-11: TRICKY LIBRA FULL MOON - MERCURY RETROGRADE

After a VOID OF COURSE Morning, MOON ENTERS LIBRA at 8:34am EDT on Sunday, April 9. It remains here until Tuesday, March 11 at 2:19pm. LAST ASPECT OF MOON: Moon Sextile Saturn in Sagittarius. The FULL MOON is exact at 2:08am Monday morning, April 10. What a loaded time this is! While this Last Aspect would usually indicate a Good resolution for action initiated at this time, with MERCURY'S RETROGRADE, exact at 7:15pm tonight, the evaluation is a little TRICKY! It's very possible that actions initiated now will come up for reconsideration in the future and reversed. Also, what was begun before this date may be re-evaluated during the Retrograde. Added to this we have the Libra Moon opposite the Aries Sun building toward the FULL MOON tomorrow morning. Venusian themes of Relationship, Art/Beauty and Money are likely feel tension-ridden. The Sextile to Saturn Last Aspect suggests that relationships are likely to have a serious nature. We also may have opportunities with elder people or authority figures during this time. Artists are likely to be more grounded in their work, finding the right tools or circumstances to support them. As with all FULL MOON periods, this is more often a better time for culmination of projects already in process. Circumstances and emotions tend to be heightened with tension-ridden energy now. The Mercury Retrograde period by itself usually indicates a time where issues of Communication, Mind Processes and Travel are undermined. Information must be checked and double checked for accuracy. Schedules are likely to be delayed or changed. Mechanical breakdowns may occur. If you can postpone any major purchases or agreements/contracts until after Mercury goes Direct, after May 7 (to clear the shadow period after the May 3 Station Direct) it is advisable to do so.

SCENE FOR THE DAY: Brief Encounter, 1945; Director: David Lean. Trevor Howard and Celia Johnson lead the cast as star-crossed lovers in this classic British romance. It's a perfect example of a relationship initiated during a Mercury retrograde period! This scene, in the symbolic railway station cafe, marks the beginning of their affair. If you've never had the privilege of witnessing this poignant drama, treat yourself immediately. It is sheer elegance. (streaming on youtube)

APRIL 7-9: CHALLENGING VIRGO MOON

MOON ENTERS VIRGO at 0:20am EDT on Friday, April 7 and remains until Sunday, April 9 at 4:21am. LAST ASPECT OF MOON: Moon Square Saturn in Sagittarius. Ruled by Mercury, the Moon in this Mutable Earth sign highlights the discerning nature of our analytical mind and drive for purity, perfection and order over chaos. The arenas of health, nutrition, daily work - especially teaching and writing - are likely to be foremost in our consciousness. The Square to Saturn Last Aspect is likely to test the controlling and critical aspect of Virgo - so be aware as possible of your communications. We tend to hold ourselves and others to high expectations now. Writers and speakers may over-analyze or criticize work. Try to breathe and relax into tense situations, especially as we build toward the climactic Full Moon early Tuesday morning. Don't get lost in the details or sweat the small stuff. Keep letting go and moving through.  Step back and look at the big picture. Otherwise, actions initiated during this time tend to have challenging results.

NOTE: Today, April 6, we enter the 3-day shadow period before MERCURY STATIONS RETROGRADE on April 9. It's important to pay attention to the arenas of Transportation and Communication now. Schedules, vehicles and all forms of information exchange should be checked and double checked before you take action! We want to resist making major purchases and signing important contracts as they tend not to work out in the end. Breathe through the tension when equipment breaks down or plans are changed or delayed. This period, which lasts until May 7, is a brilliant time for the imagination and creative work. Get ready to start preparatory work on your next creative project. You'll be amazed at the stream of consciousness activity! Do try to wait until after the first week in May to publish, promote or sell, though.

SCENE FOR THE DAY: Laurel Canyon, 2002; Director: Lisa Choldenko. Kate Beckinsale plays Alex, PhD candidate writing her dissertation on the mating habits of drosophlia, married to Sam, Harvard Medical student of psychiatry, played by Christian Bale. They come to Laurel Canyon to work and study only to find themselves having to stay with Sam's mother played by Frances McDormand, a rock 'n roll music producer. This is where analytic mind/need for order meets chaos. This image of Alex captures the Virgonian intellectual challenged by the chaotic music biz lifestyle who begins to let her hair down enough to meet it on its own terms. Sam has his own Virgonian issues which are primarily expressed by angrily criticizing his mother's bohemian lifestyle because of its influence on Alex. An abundance of conflict ensues and more than the fruit flies' sexuality is up for analysis! This independent film is a colorful ode to its namesake and the actors are great to watch.

APRIL 4-6: VERY GOOD LEO MOON

MOON REMAINS IN CANCER until 4:45pm EDT on Tuesday, April 4. SEE April 2 for info. MOON GOES VOID OF COURSE from 4:45pm until 6:13pm. Actions initiated during V/C period tend not to work out as planned or desired. Best to use this energy for inner creative work and envisioning future actions. MOON ENTERS LEO at 6:13pm and remains until Thursday, April 6 at 6:16pm. LAST ASPECT OF MOON: Moon Trine Saturn in Sagittarius. The warmth and generosity of Leo lights up the room now. We're in childlike playtime. This Fixed Fire sign is ruled by the Sun; it loves to shine, entertain and make others feel Loved. The Saturn Last Aspect offers a container for all this Fire, giving a more serious, practical and disciplined quality to this period. Fire ignites our imagination and passion. Use this energy to begin Creative projects and you should have what it takes to complete your work. If barriers to completion occur, trust that they will be successfully overcome. Leo wants to have fun but try not to be totally self-absorbed! Try to be conscious of others' needs. If anyone calls you on being egocentric, let it raise your consciousness while not taking the wind from your sails. Actions initiated during this Moon period tend to have VERY GOOD results.

NOTE: Wednesday, April 5 and Thursday, April 6 are the LAST GOOD DAYS BEFORE MERCURY GOES RETROGRADE. Do the important things that need to be done NOW! Mercury Stations Direct on May 3 and will be clear after May 7.

SCENE FOR THE DAY: Basquiat, 1996; Director: Julian Schnabel. A passion for the creative spirit drives this legendary downtown graffiti artist toward international success. Jean-Michel Basquiat, (Jeffrey Wright) befriends Andy Warhol (David Bowie) who introduces him to the larger art world which catapults him to meteoric fame. In this scene he is given a studio (his Saturn container) in which to expand his expression. Miles Davis' innovative jazz accompanies the opening of the scene emphasizing Basquiat's creative spirit which is given new form. While he lived his dream for a number of years, drug overdose claimed his life and this glorious star burned out during an early  Saturn return at 27. Perhaps he didn't create a large enough container for all his fire. Interestingly, his Mercury was in Sagittarius, indicating his exuberant self-expression. His Sun, however, at 0 Capricorn (on the cusp of Sag) is in wide conjunction with Jupiter (ruler of Sag) and Saturn, all in Capricorn. So instead Saturn being ultimately supportive, as in the Trine, it ultimately reflected his self-imposed limitations and demise.

APRIL 2-4: EXCELLENT CANCER MOON

MOON REMAINS IN GEMINI until 10:48am EDT on Sunday, April 2 when it goes VOID OF COURSE. Actions initiated during this V/C period tend not to work out as planned or desired. It's best to use this energy for creative inner work and envisioning future actions. At 2:27pm MOON ENTERS CANCER and remains until Tuesday, April 4 at 4:45pm. LAST ASPECT OF MOON: Moon Trine Venus in Pisces. The Moon in its own sign of Cardinal Water Cancer is very strong now. Its natural qualities of subjectivity, changeability and emotionality are very likely to show themselves. Move through any moodiness you may feel as quickly as possible - use the Moon's natural inconstant nature to go with the flow. Speak your truth as it is likely to be well received at this time. Try not to take things too personally, especially circumstances or memories from the Past. Step back and try hard to see things through the other's perspective. With the Last Aspect Trine Venus, the two Feminine signs are in harmony today which reflects successful relationships with Women. Indeed, Cancer reflects The Mother archetype. While sensitivity is high, this period should emphasize being inclusive and nurturing others. Home and Family are in focus and Blessed at this time. Actions initiated during this period are very likely to have EXCELLENT results. Be sure to cook a special meal. It will most definitely be appreciated.

SCENE FOR THE DAY: The Kids Are All Right, 2010; Director: Lisa Cholodenko. In this emotional scene, Julianne Moore as Jules apologizes to her modern family for her infidelity with the kids' sperm donor (Mark Ruffalo). She and her partner Nic (Annette Bening) are the colorful 'Moms' of teenagers Joni and Laser (Mia Wasikowska and Josh Hutcherson). While the film is primarily a comedy, poignant moments such as this one reveal the challenges that two women face when raising children in an innovative family structure. Because their love is strong and they express The Feminine archetype with such contemporary authenticity (and humor) they move through their struggles with dignity and ultimate success.
