LOVE IN THE TIME OF CORONA...

CORONA VIRUS COSMOLOGY
Spring Equinox🌺
Welcome Home Persephone💫

Hello to All after a long absence~
And Happy New Year!
The astrological cycle begins again as the Sun enters 0 Aries today at 11:50pm EDT.

I just wanted to keep you posted on some immediate astrological indicators. For the next two weeks, beginning Now, Mars will be passing through the Saturn/Pluto conjunction - the most anticipated and extremely challenging configuration of this year. Together these planetary archetypes reflect the destruction of traditional structures and other such peaceful things. While this transit, which was exact the first week of January, is already separating (Saturn, at 29 Cap, has now passed several degrees beyond Pluto at 24 degrees Cap) we continue to feel its effects. When other planets approach the same degree, the circumstances associated with the archetypal narrative tend to be reactivated.

Mars, a faster moving planet, is now doing exactly that. The presence of Mars, which rules the Sun when it moves into Aries tomorrow, carries the Warrior Archetype. It is an indicator of willfulness, anger, aggression and the tendency to take strong action to satisfy one’s own desires. We can also consider the high road. Mars reflects enormous life force - the initial spark of imaginative Fire. The opportunity is to express this energy as the esoteric expression suggests: as ‘the Right Use of Will’. While Mars passes over these trigger points these next few weeks the advice is to remain vigilant guardians of our states of consciousness. That we stay as present and compassionate as possible in our actions and communications. That we use our potentially formidable energy wisely. We are moving both faster and slower than our usual routines. When charging around collecting food and other supplies, it’s a good idea to leave notes and reminders for yourself; mentally mark where you leave things, get confirmation and reality checks on agreements and plans and, most of all, find your patience.
I like to stop and remember to say to myself “this moment right now is the most important moment in my life...” especially when I’m anxious. Take deep breaths with the intention of calming yourself and getting present. And, remember the welfare of The Other. Mars can represent the energy and will to accomplish tremendous feats. Just pay attention to the process.

Jupiter is moving quickly into these same degrees. Tomorrow, on the Equinox, Mars will conjunct Jupiter only two degrees from Pluto and by the end of the month Jupiter will conjunct Pluto at 22 degrees Cap. Jupiter often indicates the expansion of a situation as well as blessing it. It may indicate the growth of this virus while also bringing wisdom and eventual resolution. Mars will conjunct Pluto on the 23rd. This can indicate the strongest willfulness imaginable, to the extent of ruthlessness. These few days before the 23rd, as Mars approaches Pluto, are worthy of self-protecting. This can indicate a dangerous time - so call on your inner Zeus for guidance - in serious ritual or at any passing moment. If you have a doubt about going, saying or doing...best not to. As Mars separates, or passes Pluto, the energy wanes.

Illnesses, in general, are thought to come under the keep of Neptune. The invisible, nebulous and often mysterious quality of disease is a perfect fit with the Great Dissolver of boundaries and distinction. The insidiously infectious nature of this virus is an added clue. We must acknowledge how powerful Neptune is now in its own sign of Pisces.
Neptune in Pisces lasts for a period of 14 years. At 18 degrees, we’re about halfway through. Neptune/Pisces symbolism was heightened and brought to collective consciousness at the Pisces/Virgo Full Moon on Monday the 9th. The sun was exactly conjunct Neptune at 19 Pisces while opposing the Moon in Virgo, the sign of health, nourishment and medical practitioners.

The optimum expression of Neptune is spiritual practice, all forms of artistic expression, engagement with the sea and “particpation mystique” (the great mystery of intuitive knowledge of the collective). Boundary issues, confusion, sacrifice, ego denial etc may also surface. Again, Water is a big theme. Drink lots of it now to cleanse your system. Keep our water sources viable. Illusion and deception are Neptunian - get reality checks!

It’s also important to be aware of some context. The United States is approaching its Pluto Return, exact in February 2022.  Pluto’s orbit around the sun takes about 248 years, so this has been a long time coming and astrologers have been anticipating its arrival. Pluto returning to its natal position on the US chart at 27 degrees Capricorn, signifies a new chapter of Plutonic principles. We are clearly going through a breaking down and regenerating period. Other Plutonic themes include natural resources - particularly oil and other energy sources beneath the earth's surface (with Neptune strong in its own sign Pisces, all WATER issues are in sharp focus); crisis management; life force; death, rebirth and transformation. In the Sibley chart, which has a 12 degrees Sagittarius Ascendant, Pluto resides in the US second house. This represents our values, money, self-worth, property etc. These are the areas we, as a cultural collective, are now required to address and transform. Pluto’s reconstruction is a slow evolutionary process and we are not likely to witness results any time soon. But the beginning of any process the most crucial. Like any birth chart indicates, the initiating moment sets us on our course. Our choices now are critical. At a planetary return we have the opportunity to experience its archetypal  principles at more evolved level of consciousness. The voices of global and local leaders - elected, requested and self-proclaimed - communicating through the written, oral, electronic and intuited word, will determine the collective decisions that are made. Do status quo conventional structures remain in place (Saturn, Pluto and Jupiter in Capricorn) or do we observe the shift into Aquarian innovation? (Saturn, Pluto and Jupiter all moving into Aquarius). Immediate and long term revolution/evolution is suggested by these combined archetypes. There's no getting around it. The expression, "Breakdown before Breakthrough" comes to mind. How can we each contribute to the conversation?

Whether we consider it a wakeup call to the Kali Yuga (a very slow moving Tibetan age of collective Plutonic destruction and regeneration), a cultural renewal of values or a time of very personal lessons to be actively learned at the cellular level - this is a time to be reckoned with as well as a great opportunity for advancement on a soul level.

Being aware of which astrological house, or area of life, these transits are occurring in our personal charts will be helpful to know what is being tested and where we might extend extra vigilance.

On the 21st Saturn, at 29 Capricorn (strong in its own sign), will move into Aquarius where it serves as traditional ruler. With Saturn’s movement to Aquarius, ruled by the modern planet Uranus, it helps usher in this New Age we have been on the cusp of entering for decades. When Pluto enters in March 2023. perhaps we will show signs of an elevated consciousness on a global scale. We do know it’s likely to take a crisis of this magnitude to live Neptune’s mantra of: All is One and One is All❣️

Neptune is also considered to be the higher resonance of Venus. ‘A Higher Love‘. Beauty and Art as archetype. Film, the art of ‘illusion as reality’ is a perfect way to engage with Neptune -
and a perfect segue to the movie that comes to mind for this moment in time:

The Constant Gardener, 2005; Director: Fernando Meirelles; Screenwriter: Jeffrey Caine

Rachel Weisz and Ralph Fiennes star in is the Oscar winning adaptation of The Constant Gardener. Weisz is a mega-Pisces, with the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus and the North Node ALL in Pisces!! Fiennes is the obligatory Capricorn (with Jupiter in Pisces). During a global epidemic of AIDS a drug company is discovered pouring pharmaceuticals into parts of Africa while simultaneously dangerously testing other drugs on the vulnerable African population. Weisz, as activist Tessa Quayle, reveals that nothing is as it appears - in true Neptunian fashion - and is murdered for the truth-telling threat she has become. Her unassuming  government-worker husband grieves her shocking loss by engaging in an intricate and life- threatening investigation. Things come to light about his wife the likes of which he never had a clue. This is a film of passion, about both love and conviction. A must see!!
PS: Stay Well; Stay Smart. Endure.

JUNE 30 - JULY 1: FAIR AQUARIUS MOON

MOON ENTERS AQUARIUS at 0:37am EDT on Saturday, June 30 and remains here until Sunday, July 1 at 6:56pm when it goes VOID OF COURSE for the rest of the night. LAST ASPECT OF MOON: Moon Opposite Venus in Leo. Ruled by Uranus, this Fixed Air Moon will probably need to assert its independence and rebellious nature. Early Saturday morning the Moon will Oppose Mercury and Square Uranus, its ruler - and then later in the morning (9:01am) Mercury will Square Uranus. Both hard aspects suggestive an upsetting early morning. Perhaps this is a good day to sleep in! Actually, the evening looks pretty irritating as well with the Moon Conjunct Mars. Try working on an unusual solo project - against the grain of a group-conscious Aquarian nature - and perhaps wait until the Pisces Moon to bring it to others. This Moon may have particular difficulties for women as both the Moon and Venus (which in Leo is passionately expressive) reflect the Feminine archetype. The Moon naturally feels most comfortable at home, with family and focused on the emotional past, but Aquarius wants to take her into the future with a more mental and detached perspective. Objective scientific or technological projects or perspectives should fare best now but expect the unexpected! Actions initiated during this Moon period tend to have FAIR resolutions. Remember Venus is the Lesser Beneficent (Jupiter being the Greater) and even a Square aspect to Venus is still, well... beautifully Venusian.

AQUARIUS FILM SCENE: How to Talk To Girls at Parties, 2017; Director: John Cameron Mitchell; Screenplay: Philippa Goslett and Mitchell. Based on the 18 page short story by Neil Gaiman, this is most definitely a futuristic and unusual Aquarian/Leo sci-fi love story. Alien Zan (Elle Fanning) meets punk kid Enn (Alex Sharp) and, for 48-hours, they explode into a literally star-crossed lovers adventure. Punk guru Queen Boadicea, a radically attired and pumped-up Nicole Kidman, instigates a political uprising in the outskirts of London while Ruth Wilson (The Affair), as
PT Stella (queen of the aliens) wants to ingest her for dinner. The set-up between punks and aliens affords much commentary on individual freedom vs. bizarre alien rules, restrictions and conformity, suggesting relevance to today's cries for wall-building and general isolationism. Perhaps the cultural revolutionary backdrop to this ode to late 70's angry electronic music wants to wake us up again to the current absurdities of fake Fake News and other misdirections. The casting is spot-on and visuals are wildly colorful, but the love story tends to lose its focus towards the end, getting lost in the excess...perhaps another telling metaphor. Still, a cinematic feast for the eye (and ear - for those with amenable sensibilities) from the director of Hedwig and the Angry Inch. Premiered at Cannes. Streaming on Amazon, iTunes and Google.

🌑 JUNE 27-29: CAPRICORN FULL MOON

MOON ENTERS CAPRICORN at 11:52am EDT on Wednesday, June 27 and remains here until Friday, June 29 at 4:57am when it goes VOID OF COURSE for the rest of the day. LAST ASPECT OF MOON: Moon Conjunct Pluto in Capricorn. FULL MOON IS EXACT on Thursday, June 28 at 0:53am at 6º Capricorn. Sounds like a seriously intense Full Moon! Use the stabilizing nature of Saturn-ruled Capricorn to steady yourself while tension increases as we move towards the climactic completion of events which have previously been set in motion. Climbing the mountain of ambition, Capricorn rules governments, business and our careers - traditional structures. It also rules the crystallized structures of bones and teeth in the body. These areas of life are likely to be in sharp focus now. Emotional expression (which is likely to be Pluto-powerful) and relationships with women may feel constrained. We know what it's like to repress strong emotions - the result is usually either depression or an eventual volcanic eruption. Circumstances that show up now may be indications of what the
Saturn/Pluto conjunction in Capricorn will be like that we astrologers are all anticipating in January 2020. This conjunction can be 'deconstructed' as the tearing down (Pluto) of old traditional structures (Saturn) before rebuilding (Pluto)...or pruning or restructuring what no longer works in terms of our collective resources or power (fuel, global economy, political decisions - Pluto's archetype) or in our collective psyche. Any way you interpret the meeting of these two archetypes, the indications are strong and will most likely affect us deeply. As this current lunar position also creates the tension-producing Full Moon (Moon in Capricorn Opposite Sun in Cancer), be conscious as it approaches to allow whatever is up in your personal life for restructuring to move on out. It's likely to have something to do with our ambition to succeed or limitations to speaking our emotional truth. Exhale as you let it go. Then, knowing you've just made a quantum leap, smile at your courage!
NOTE: On Tuesday, the 26th MARS TURNS RETROGRADE at 9º Aquarius, and remains Retrograde until August 27 at 28º Capricorn when it TURNS DIRECT. Mars' archetype concerns our Identity, our Will or Intentionality, our Sexuality, our Warrior-nature (Anger) and our physical Actions. Use this time to reconsider who you truly are and if your Actions in the world signify this identity. Notice what House(s) early degrees of Aquarius/late Capricorn fall in your birth chart. Any action or decisions made in the area of life that this house represents will be given an opportunity to be reconsidered and perhaps, done over during the retrograde period. We're likely to feel the shift in energy from Aquarius' more erratic, impatient and rebellious attitude back to a steadfast, disciplined and responsible Capricorn. While Aquarius is more independent both are enterprising and are concerned with producing result. Innovative technologies are more accessible to us during the imaginative Aquarius Mars while it will serve us better to stay with tried and true conventional means while it's in Capricorn from August 14 - September 11. Interestingly, Mars will retrograde over the US 2nd House South Node to one degree away from its natal Pluto (which is Opposite Mercury), perhaps giving us opportunities to reconsider our Values, Resources and Financial decisions made in the last few months. We're moving towards a Pluto Return (transiting Pluto will conjoin natal Pluto in early 2022, which we'll begin to feel in 2020) - a huge moment of transformation for our country, particularly regarding these areas. Mars retrograding over this area now may indicate the circumstances to come - though its pretty clear that the whole arena is already in play. Along with erratic Uranus' recent move into money-driven Taurus, the advice is to get your financial ducks in as-secure-a-row-as-possible as soon as possible. Mars joins four other planets currently Retrograde: Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune and Pluto! With all this - who we, as a collective, have considered ourselves to be, looks like it's about to change... radically.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dZOaI_Fn5o4
CAPRICORN FULL MOON FILM: Blade Runner 2049; Director: Denis Villeneuve. The classic yet innovative story continues...and it's as good or better than the original. Pluto/Saturn themes of destroying old structures abound in this dystopic epic. The old model of replicants (bioengineered android created to serve as a slave laborer) is still being hunted down by LAPD Blade Runners. But our new main character 'K', played by a seriously
mesmerizing Ryan Gosling, discovers buried below a solitary tree, the bones of a female replicant which has given birth. In fear of losing control of their society's order, Gosling's boss, Lieutenant Joshi (Robin Wright), demands he find the child and eliminate it. Of course, it's not a huge surprise that the parents are...well, no spoilers here...but even from the trailer we know Harrison Ford's original title character shows up
for what, I thought, was some of the best dramatic acting of his career. Villeneuve is said to leave much of the actor's choices to their own devices and the end result is an invisible veil between reality and illusion. Legendary cinematographer Roger Deakins (Skyfall, No Country for Old Men, The Reader) won the Academy Award for Best Cinematography for this film and his visuals are nothing short of gorgeous. This is not your average sci-fi movie containing all the expected conventions of the genre. Mysteries continue to prevail and while the plot is definitive, the narrative is most surely and richly character driven. If you haven't seen this magnificent piece of filmmaking - or its predecessor - you're missing a real treat. On HBO.

JUNE 25-26: CHALLENGING SAGITTARIUS MOON

Redon's Struggle Between Woman and Centaur
MOON ENTERS SAGITTARIUS at 0:29am EDT on Monday, June 25 and remain here until Tuesday, June 26 at 8:54am. LAST ASPECT OF MOON: Moon Square Neptune in Pisces. Jupiter-ruled Sag is missing Uranus in Aries! After seven years, Uranus has ingressed into Taurus, so the ease of the Last Aspect Trine to Uranus in late-degrees Aries that we've been used to for the last few years - giving us those optimistic Sagittarius Moons - is not with us now. (It will return in when Uranus retrogrades back to Aries this November through early March '19 though!) The Square to Neptune in Pisces reflects both a more confusing time as well as possibly bringing up old issues with Mother. Centaur Sag wants more freedom than Pisces is often able to offer. I like to refer to Neptune as the 'urge to merge'. A hard aspect with this Neptune, which in its own sign now is strong, often gives us a more limiting bond than is desirable.  Its very watery nature is likely to throw a bucket of water on our Sag Fire.  We may come to find our idealism is under the influence of some illusion - to the degree of being deceived now. Check your information. We may have the inclination to take off on some Truth-seeking adventure when circumstances overwhelm or drown out our drive. One of the signs of great athletes, Sag needs to be physically active though. And with the great strength, endurance and great good fortune its archetype carries, it's hard to keep its energy bound for long. In any case, be as straightforward as you can and speak your truth with humility and kindness. Both Sagittarius and Neptune suggest a spiritual space and that's probably the best place to be now. More concrete practical actions initiated during this Moon period tend to have CHALLENGING resolutions.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pwBXs2B2ZbI
SAGITTARIUS FILM: Pelé, 2016; Director: Jeffrey Zimbalist. I loved this film! The trailer may give us too much information - as they do - but each scene is still worth watching in its entirety for both the tender and harsh moments of character building. This film tells the true story of a Brazilian boy who, with innate physical agility and a strong will to win, transcends obscurity and poverty to attain fame and glory. When witnessing his father's public tears at Brazil's loss of the World Cup to Uruguay in 1950, young Edson Arantes do Nascimento promises he will win it one day. He is only 18 when he wins his first of three World Cups for Brazil. The name Pelé, as he is derogatorily called early on by a competing football (soccer) team, has become synonymous with soccer. (It is said there is no translation for this name in Portuguese, but Pelé hated it because he thought it sounded like 'baby talk'. In Hebrew it is defined as 'a wonder'.) His authentic Brazilian Ginga style of playing, taught to him by his professional footballer father, is initially rejected by his coach. After Pelé breaks the rules and employs ginga to bring his team finally to victory, the 'primitive' style is finally acknowledged as valuable and re-instated. In a poignant locker room scene the coach admits he had fallen victim to the (Neptunian) illusion that the modern straight-laced technical style was more professional and that ginga ('doing that surprise move or trick...bending the ball around the defender or playing the ball with your heel to a cutting teammate...making a pass with your thigh or your back') is 'not only beautiful and artistic, but is also very difficult and the true style of Brazil...' It is said the freestyle of ginga has produced some of the greatest players of all-time. When the coach, played by Vincent D'Onofrio, switches styles in this 1958 World Cup game in Sweden, he tells his team, 'We may not win, but we will give them a beautiful game.' They've also given us a beautiful film.

JUNE 10-11: EXCELLENT TAURUS MOON

Birth of Venus - Odilon Redon
MOON ENTERS TAURUS at 0:04am EDT on Sunday, June 10 and remains here until Monday, June 11 at 11:29pm when it goes VOID OF COURSE. LAST ASPECT OF MOON: Moon Sextile Venus in Cancer. Ruled by Venus this Taurus Moon is in its glory! Its archetype deals with that which we value - its range is from Beauty, Sensuous Love and Art to its Earthy self as Master Builder. What Taurus creates must satisfy a lust for aesthetic pleasure and be of the physical world. And what the Taurus Moon builds she makes for the purpose for of providing security for those she loves. Taurus is a Fixed sign and its stubborn nature is legendary. This is a time for creating Beauty that gives support and being conscious of breathing into and letting go of places where we feel stuck. Taurus is the money sign and this is the time to purchase that which gives you pleasure! Actions along these themes initiated during this Moon period will tend to have EXCELLENT RESOLUTIONS. Note: The Moon will Conjunct Uranus newly in Taurus, now at 1 degree. This may reflect some excitement or unexpected disruption in our home or emotional life. It also may require some needed space. Best to honor Uranus' requests as he's not one to be ignored.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2hcDb7gJ4I
TAURUS FILM SCENE: Back to Burgandy (Ce qui nous lie - That Which Binds Us - original title), 2017 (French); Writer/Director: Cédric Klapisch. A Sensuous Venus is tangible in this gorgeous French wine country film. From the first shot we can tell we are going to relish every moment. Three siblings reconcile their financial conflicts over an inherited vineyard when Jean (Pio Marmaï), the eldest, returns
after many years from Australia and a troubled relationship. Though he has run away from his father and his roots, we witness as he reconnects with the his family and their land which supports him in more ways than he remembers. Perhaps resolutions come too easily but we fall in love with each character - a rare experience - and want to jump into the screen to stomp on grapes and celebrate with them.

JUNE 2-4: GOOD AQUARIUS MOON

MOON ENTERS AQUARIUS at 6:06pm EDT on Saturday, June 2 after a VOID OF COURSE DAY, and remains in Aquarius until Monday, June 4 at 1:10am. It remains VOID OF COURSE ALL DAY June 4. One has to consider all these V/C days we're having. We seem to be being set up to confront the in-between places in our personal and collective lives - to let go of our western propensity for accomplishment. Concepts such as 'the unknowable', the symbolic life, the dream world and intuition, are all supported by the nebulous and creative energy of the Void of Course Moon. Just don't expect to get a lot of practical work done and know that what you do produce is likely to morph into something you haven't planned on: Go with the Flow.
The AQUARIUS MOON is ruled by Uranus (and traditionally - before the discovery of Uranus - by Saturn) and we can continue to expect the unexpected for the next few days. This Fixed Air sign is driven to surprises and changes, sometimes revolutionary. Our minds should be in high gear and coming up with innovative ideas for old problems. Aquarius rules the electronic arena so this is a good time for distributing information via computers. Work associated with the welfare, especially the equality, of the collective is always the point for Aquarius. Get together with friends or groups of like-minded colleagues and begin some exciting project. Remember that Aquarius reflects the individual's unique expression within the group, so don't hold back - be your True Beautiful self! Actions along these themes initiated during this Moon period are likely to have GOOD RESOLUTIONS. The only caution for the Square to Jupiter is excess! And don't forget that Aquarius has a more objective and scientific perspective than many of us, so if you encounter detachment or aloofness, don't take it personally. Take a deep breath, know the energy of the day and use it the most appropriately as you can!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQ2cLoAdsHc
AQUARIUS FILM SCENE: State of Play, 2003
(Original British Mini-Series); Director: David Yates; Writer: Paul Abbott. Bill Nighy, James McAvoy, Kelly McDonald, John Simm and David Morrissey lead the amazing cast in this six-hour mini-series from which the Russell Crowe/Rachel McAdams full-length American movie was adapted. It is a political thriller in which a newspaper investigator unravels the coverup of a murder involving a major corporation and an MP - who happens to be an old friend of the investigator. This version is so much better than the American! It's questionable whether all the complex dramatic plot points can be fully realized in a condensed format. The characters are so beautifully developed in the extended BBC television series that you don't want to miss a moment. Astrologically speaking: here we have a team of newspaper reporters who are working a story which starts to blow their minds. They're excited to get the information out (all Uranus/Aquarius) but then come to the realization that the meaning or what they thought was the story is challenged (square to Jupiter). This is one of my all time favorites! You can get the discs from Netflix or a library (Keene Public Library)...Here's another/different trailer:

MAY 31-JUNE 1: CHALLENGING CAPRICORN MOON

MOON ENTERS CAPRICORN at 5:26am EDT on Thursday, May 31 and remains here until Friday, June 1 at 11:37pm when it goes VOID OF COURSE. LAST ASPECT OF MOON: Moon Conjunct Pluto in Capricorn. Again, Capricorn has most often of late been making its Last Aspect to Uranus in Aries. Now that Uranus has ingressed into Taurus, Pluto will be taking over as the outer planet that the Capricorn Moon most often aspects. This can describe a deep psychological journey for the Saturn-ruled Capricorn which is usually concerned with producing practical results. Its ambitious nature may encounter the depression that is its shadow when things don't manifest as expected. There can be great rewards, however, in this rich period if we let ourselves tap the inner resources that avail themselves and not get caught up in the measure of material gains or losses. Capricorn also reflects business and government. We might see, for example, intense opposition to one government's use of another's resources, or some kind of intense disagreement between them. In general, unless we have the stuff of willing travelers on a bumpy ride, actions initiated during this Moon period are likely to have Challenging resolutions.

CAPRICORN FILM SCENE: Madam Secretary, Season 2 Episode 9: Russian Roulette, 2015; Director: Jonathan Brown; Writer: Barbara Hall. Téa Leoni stars as Elizabeth McCord, Secretary of State. In this scene she bluntly asks of the Chinese Foreign Minister Chen if the Chinese were responsible for the hacking of Air Force One. Chen responds, "China is playing a long game. When we come for you, it won’t be with missiles and cyber attacks. We will repossess you." It's a great moment as adversaries confront each other while keeping their cool.

MAY 28-30: CHALLENGING SAGITTARIUS FULL MOON

MOON ENTERS SAGITTARIUS AT 6:29PM EDT on Monday, May 28 after a VOID OF COURSE period from 1:25pm. Moon remains in Sag until Wednesday, May 30 at 2:26am. LAST ASPECT OF MOON: Moon Square Neptune in Pisces. FULL MOON is EXACT at 10:19am on Tuesday, May 30 at 8º Sagittarius. Ruled by Jupiter, this Mutable Fire sign is likely to reflect our high-minded philosophical idealism and optimism confronted with the down-side of Neptune's (The Great Dissolver) archetype: deception, confusion or misunderstanding. Neptune's oceanic power can feel like a tidal wave. With the Full Moon circumstances and relationships are likely to come to a climax and tension is often the result. This is a time for completion, as the Moon comes to full fruition and completes the growth part of its cycle. Both Jupiter and Neptune are spiritually oriented. The 90º Square relationship challenges their vision. The image that comes to mind is a road trip taken with a friend to find a natural water spring; we were so involved and perhaps overwhelmed in our philosophical conversation that we missed our exit and got totally lost. You probably know this one! Hopefully, you'll be inspired to rise to the occasion and go beyond any barriers to feel emotionally satiated. Sag/Jupiter require freedom for adventure. Neptune in its own sign is strong and the square to the Moon can reflect circumstances, perhaps emotionally laden, that block this drive. Perhaps its best to travel inward now instead of outward. Attempts at morally beneficial acts may be misunderstood or thwarted. In general, actions initiated around these themes during this Moon period are likely to have Challenging resolutions. Note: This is the first Sag Moon to occur after Uranus has ingressed from Aries to Taurus on May 15th. The significance of this transition is that Uranus will not be in late degrees of Aries for another 6 months when it Retrogrades back to Aries in November until early March. So we'll see Sagittarius Moons now Squaring Neptune or aspecting inner planets when they're in late degrees of Mutable and Fire signs.

SAGITTARIUS FILM SCENE: Schindler's List, 1993; Steven Spielberg. In this scene Liam Neeson, as greedy German businessman turned humanitarian Oskar Schindler, says his farewells to his Jewish accountant, Iszhak Stern, played by Sir Ben Kingsley. In this climactic moment he breaks down, realizing that he could have saved even more Jews from their untimely, unnecessary and morally despicable deaths - murders. It is one of the most powerful and memorable scenes in cinema. If you've never seen this remarkable personal story of the Holocaust, pick a quiet - perhaps solitary - night to go on a journey of transformation that reminds us of the real stuff we are fundamentally made of. Though Schindler ultimately saved hundreds of Jews, and as Oskar tells him: "Generations will live because of you..." he believed he could have done more...Sag director Spielberg tends to look at the big meaningful picture (Saving Private Ryan, Close Enters of the Third Kind, The Color Purple, Empire of the Sun...)

MAY 26-28: CHALLENGING SCORPIO MOON

MOON ENTERS SCORPIO at 9:39am EDT on Saturday, May 26 after a VOID OF COURSE early morning. Moon remains in Scorpio until Monday, May 28 at 9:39am. LAST ASPECT OF MOON: Moon Opposite Mercury in Taurus. Ruled by Pluto, the Fixed Water sign of Scorpio often reflects a period of emotional intensity. With the Opposition to Mercury, communications may hit a brick wall of confrontation. Scorpio is often drawn to power struggles so the challenge is to notice if you're being particularly willful, take a deep breath and choose not to go there. Decide to negotiate, compromise or concede. We like to go deep psychologically with Scorpio/Pluto, so try not to get stuck in the watery earth we call mud (Mercury in Earthy Taurus and Pluto in Earthy Capricorn). Instead, call on the resources Scorpio/Pluto also symbolizes, especially those of others, to gain more objective and flexible perspectives. Sexuality may be center stage now. You may attempt to communicate a particular message in this arena which isn't received by your partner. Perhaps its best to wait for a better day! Actions initiated during this Moon period will tend to have Challenging resolutions.
NOTE: With Uranus now in Taurus, the Moon will Oppose it at 10:42am on Saturday, May 26. Watch out for a flare up leading up to this transit, especially as we build towards the FULL MOON on Tuesday, May 29. The Moon then Squares Mars at 4:46pm so the conflict might last for a bit! Also - Re: Uranus in Taurus: Scorpio/Taurus may be inclined to purchase or invest. We're in questionable times now in the financial arena. So do your research and be cautious.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0D9mDHPY0RA
SCORPIO FILM SCENE: Thelma and Louise, 1991; Director Ridley Scott. Moon-in-Scorpio Scott directed this unforgettable scene where T and L take down this obnoxiously horny truck driver. They use their confident sexuality and growing volatility to refuse victimization in any situation. Payback power play - big time! Susan Sarandon, as Louise, and Geena Davis, as Thelma, take Scorpio Moon Opposite Mercury in Taurus to a new level of communication!

MAY 17-19: EXCELLENT CANCER MOON

Woman and Child - Redon
MOON ENTERS CANCER on Thursday, May 17 at 5:47pm EDT after being in Gemini until 2:18pm. (Moon is VOID OF COURSE from 5:47pm - 2:18pm). MOON REMAINS IN CANCER until Saturday, May 19 at 5:14pm. LAST ASPECT OF CANCER MOON: Moon Sextile Sun in Taurus. We haven't had a great Cancer Moon for a LONG time! Because Uranus has been in late degrees of Aries for more than a year, we've seen mostly Challenged Cancer Moons, with Last Aspects Square to Uranus. Now that Uranus is in Taurus (note: it retrogrades back to Aries in November to March '19) we'll see more possibilities for easier Cancer Moon periods. Mothers say Hallelujah!  The Feminine Archetype is released and home, family, food and nurturing of all kinds is highlighted. With the Sextile to the Sun in Taurus, opportunities are available for all these qualities to yield great benefits. The Moon, Cancer's natural ruler, also rules public sentiment. With the aspect to the Sun in Taurus this Moon period offers the opportunity to find a strong sense of self-worth and put your true Self out there in public view. Having the courage to do this should have very positive results. Remember Chiron's recent ingress into Aries is also focused on this theme, so stand up and present yourself, even if its only to your inner circle! Of course, this is also a wonderful time to stay home, create fabulous meals to share with ones you love. Actions initiated during this Cancer Moon are likely to have EXCELLENT resolutions.

CANCER FILM SCENE: Little Women, 1949; Director: Mervyn Le Roy. June Allyson, Peter Lawford, Janet Leigh, Margaret O'brien and Elizabeth Taylor star in this classic adaptation of Louisa May Alcott's novel. The family saga of four daughters and their mother, living in Concord, Massachusetts, navigating life when their father/husband goes off to war. Jo, played by Allyson, is the modern 'little' woman who wants to be a big writer. We watch her impressive individuation process as she blossoms into an independent woman. She's a perfect example of Moon in Cancer Sextile Sun in Taurus! It's wonderful to see that this film, which is almost eighty years old, still holds up dramatically and emotionally. Though, for some reason, the trailer shown here is in black and white, the film was actually shot in Technicolor. The rich saturation of colors are no longer Hollywood's style, but it's awesome to go back in time to revisit the eye-popping deep reds, blues and greens.
Though it's hard to let go of the gorgeous high contrast of the black and white replica...and then there's the excellent 1994 version directed by Gillian Armstrong (My Brilliant Career) with Winona Ryder, Claire Danes, Kirsten Dunst, Samantha Mathis, Susan Sarandon, Eric Stoltz and Christian Bale. Amazing cast! The plot remains the same, as does the theme it explores: how does a woman negotiate society's expectations for marriage and family with her drive to engage in her own professional work. A constant Cancer consideration...

URANUS IN TAURUS

URANUS ENTERS TAURUS on Tuesday, May 15 at 11:23am EDT and remains here for about seven years, until April 2026. This is a big deal for astrology lovers! When an outer planet (Uranus, Neptune and Pluto) changes signs, it's an indication of a major collective shift. Because one of Uranus' key descriptors is 'sudden change', we can also imagine some manner of cultural revolution.
Uranus is the sky-god Ouranos in Greek creation myths, the husband and son of Earth goddess Gaia. Already this sounds like trouble! Indeed, as Hesiod describes his myth in Theogony, because Uranus disavowed the children Gaia bore him and imprisoned them in Tartarus, a place of torment in the underworld, Gaia asked her children to retaliate by castrating him. Cronos, or Saturn, was the only offspring to act and did so successfully, throwing Uranus' testicles into the sea.
The Mutilation of Uranus by Saturn: fresco by Giorgio Vasari and Cristofano Gherardi, c. 1560

The myth continues, that from the severed genitals and the sea-foam came Aphrodite, or Venus, a point to which we shall soon return. Indo-European and Greek etymology describes Uranus as the ‘rainmaker,’ while the Russian and Sanskrit derivations have him as ‘the one standing on high.’
The Birth of Aphrodite (from the froth of the sea) by George Cruikshank, 1860

Symbolically, Uranus’ archetype represents the principle of separation or breaking apart. The range of its interpretation is from its least optimum expression: disruption, upset, eccentricity, violent revolution and the shock of a lightening bolt - to its most optimum expression: freedom, release, liberation, independence, the unusual or unique, science and technology, higher awareness, intuition, New Age communities, and the proverbial Wake-Up Call.

Ingressing (entering) into Taurus (ruled by Venus) after residing in Aries (ruled by Mars) for seven years, suggests a significant qualitative transition. While Uranus in Fiery Aries can reflect a radical change in identity and willfulness, in Earthy Taurus it is likely to mirror a shift in 'what we value', what affords us security; it can also be more focused on the material world, what we physically build (Taurus is the Master Builder) and the personal resources it takes to accomplish these things. The combination of Uranus and Mars offers up images of explosion and war while Uranus aligned with Venus might portray something akin to a relationship break-up. Though, as the previously referred to etymology suggests, Venus’ mythological existence is directly linked to Uranus. I like the idea that archetypal Venusian Beauty/Love is the result of the ‘demise’ of Uranian separation…or freedom?

Since Taurus is considered the Money sign (Venus = what we value) we can also imagine a change (disruption) in financial conditions for the greater collective. The quick and high vibration of Uranus (the collective resonance of Mercury) also rules electronics and the digital arena (wide and fast distribution of information). There's been so much attention on bitcoins and other electronic currencies - and with Uranus in Taurus it would appear likely that the conversation will continue to grow in this direction. With the direct use of electronic currencies disregarding intermediary banks,  this is indeed a revolutionary idea whose time may come - big time - with this planetary shift.

Some variations in the combined themes of Uranus and Taurus might give us: lightening striking buildings, innovative construction, shocking or liberating relationships, disruption in finances, a radical change in our values or an explosion on earth (as in the recent Mt. Kilauea volcanic eruption in Hawaii). Of course, it's all about perspective - a seemingly negative shocking disruption can, in the end, be just the wake-up call we needed to put us back on the right track.

I'm reminded of that great scene from the Mike Nichols film Charlie Wilson's War when Philip Seymour Hoffman's character tells Tom Hank's congressman Charlie Wilson  about the Zen master's "We'll See..." story. (The great Aaron Sorkin's dialogue, of course!) You just never know how it's going to go. But the enduring symbolic language of astrology most often gives us a good heads up! As always, more to come on the subject.

MAY 15-17: EXCELLENT GEMINI MOON

MOON ENTERS GEMINI at 4:43pm EDT on Tuesday, May 15 after being in Taurus until 4:30pm. It remains in Gemini until Thursday, May 17 at 2:18pm. LAST ASPECT OF MOON IN GEMINI: Moon Conjunct Venus in Gemini. We continue the New Moon momentum, which actually picks up in Gemini...big time! Communication and Travel are highlighted. Go! Do! Be! Ruled by Mercury, now in Taurus, this Gemini Moon period should benefit greatly by URANUS' INGRESS INTO TAURUS today. (Uranus is the collective resonance of Mercury - widely distributed information) This is a huge moment of change (Uranus remains in Taurus, the money sign, for the next 7 years) which I address in a separate post. Mercury's conjunction with Uranus ignites our imagination and mental activity in general. Our thinking patterns may go through a transformation now. New ideas, especially about Uranian technology and higher consciousness, are likely to explode into Taurus manifestation. We are likely to be thoroughly excited by our thoughts and venture into innovative projects. Try creating new solutions to old problems today and see what you come up with. This a perfect time for an astrology reading or making a public announcement over the Uranus-ruled internet - especially about your new project! This Moon period might also yield a new love relationship - or two - created via inspired dialogue. The Last Aspect to Venus blesses our endeavors and actions initiated during this Moon period are likely to have EXCELLENT resolutions. PS: Remember Mercury is also Trickster!

GEMINI FILM SCENE: Sweet Home Alabama, 2002; Director: Andy Tennant. Gemini Tennant is the perfect romantic comedy director (Hitch, Fool's Gold) and this is one of my all-time favorites. Reese Witherspoon, Josh Lucas and Patrick Dempsey form a love triangle which travels from New York City's fashion industry down to the deep south country music of Alabama. With great comedic dialogue and dramatic setups, the Trickster rules the roost. Also features Candice Bergen, Fred Ward and Mary Kay Place. And the Music is Lynyrd Skynyrd at its best! Enjoy!

MAY 11-13: CHALLENGING AND DARING ARIES MOON

Joan of Arc - Redon
MOON ENTERS ARIES at 8:40am EDT on Thursday, May 11 after an early morning VOID OF COURSE Moon. It remains in Aries until Sunday, May 13 at 2:05pm. LAST ASPECT OF MOON: Moon Conjunct Uranus in Aries. Ruled by Mars, this Cardinal Fire sign brings us the Warrior Archetype. Its range of expression extends from conflict, anger, impulsive action and arrogance to intelligent leadership, courage, competitive physical activity and a strong sense of identity. The Conjunction to Uranus tends to emphasize unexpected or impulsive and perhaps shocking behavior. With Chiron, the Wounded Healer, having recently entered Aries, the ante is raised even higher. Since Uranus slides into Taurus on Tuesday, May 15, this will be the last Aries Moon to make a conjunction to Uranus for awhile. (Uranus will retrograde back to late degrees Aries and be the Moon's Last Aspect again from November to March '19.) So, let's celebrate the occasion by highlighting the most optimum expression possible. This could be an exciting time to begin cultivating a new attitude of Aries self-awareness and courage. So if a Moon/Uranus conflict does arise, find your brave old soul and let it guide you towards a new-found confidence. Aries, the number one Fire sign symbolizes identity. Take your attention off what might be falling apart around you just long enough to remember who you really are. Dare to believe the mantra: This moment, each and every moment, is the most important moment of your life.

ARIES FILM SCENE: Joan of Arc, 1900; Director: George Méliès. An example of courageous and clear sense of self is evident in the character of Joan of Arc, the iconic saintly figure of French history. Her faith in God allowed this young country girl to find the courage to lead an army into battle in order to save France from occupation by the English. Her behavior was unexpected and even shocking - as was her death by Fire. This short film of about ten minutes contains many of the elements we have come to cherish about Méliès' many films, particularly his classic A Trip to the Moon - magic, dissolves, a stationary camera, sets designed to move towards and away from the lens and, of course, Méliès featured in every scene. This film also demonstrates the use of hand-tinted coloration. Early film didn't edit scenes. A single scene is one long shot. (feel free to fast forward through some laboriously repetitious footage) Méliès is considered the first narrative filmmaker because he joined these single-shot scenes together to construct a story. You may remember the 2011 film, Hugo, which was a tribute to this legendary early master of cinema.

MAY 6-8: EXCELLENT AQUARIUS MOON

MOON ENTERS AQUARIUS at 10:48am EDT on Sunday, May 6 after being VOID OF COURSE from 9:48am. It remains in Aquarius until 10:29pm on Tuesday, May 8. LAST ASPECT OF MOON: Moon Trine Uranus in Aries. The Uranus-ruled Aquarian Moon is a strong one with this Last Aspect. While the previous conventional Capricorn Moon was challenged by Uranus' drive for innovation, the Aquarian Moon, in harmony with its Uranian ruler, thrives on the excitement of change! We want to shake things up now even to the degree of being shocked into transformation and freedom. Imagination and intuition are strong now - trust them! Uranus symbolizes the collective resonance of Mercury, so it rules the distribution of information, particularly by electronic technology.  Therefore, the use of digital equipment to disseminate knowledge tends to be very successful now. The scientific mind of Aquarius requires objectivity, so don't be offended if you encounter the apparent detachment of others. Groups of friends, organizations and communities will benefit from this period as do Revolutionary acts of Love, Service and Politics. Go with the Flow of the Aquarian Moon and your actions are likely to have Excellent results!

AQUARIAN FILM SCENE: FILMS FOR ACTION, A Collection of the top 100 Documentary Films for Change. Check out this site which is a great resource for Aquarian films. The organizers of this website researched tons of films along this New Age theme and catalogued the best of them, including only ones that could be easily screened, mostly for free. Groundbreaking perspectives in political, environmental, educational, psychological and financial arenas are highlighted. They include Sundance films like: The Corporation (2003); Gasland (2010); and Dirt (2009). Also, The Global Brain: Peter Russell (1983); Class Dismissed (2004) - How history is taught in high school; You Can't be Neutral on a Moving Train (2004, Howard Zinn); and A Simpler Way: Crisis as Opportunity (2016). Here's the link to A Simpler Way - a record of creating an experimental template for community in rural Australia which challenges others to take up the torch. It concludes with: "Our fragile planet cannot tolerate a growing population of affluent consumers. Technology and 'free markets’ will not save us. We cannot wait for governments to lead the way. We must build the  new world ourselves, within the shell of the old..."
