SCENE FOR THE DAY: Warrior, 2011; Director: Gavin O'Connor. Tom Hardy and Joel Edgerton are Tommy and Brendon Conlan, brothers at war. Communications between the two have been damaged ever since their mother and father split. This film is a magnificent reflection of Gemini siblings who oppose each other vehemently and how they find their way to reconciliation. The first scene explains the polar perspectives that divide them. The second scene is what screenwriters refer to as the 'obligatory scene' of the protagonist and antagonist finally engaging in the action that leads to resolution. This is a powerful film that offers brilliant acting within a classic archetypal narrative. Interestingly, writer/director O'Connor has his North/South Node axis at a Gemini/Sagittarius opposition. He would be a perfect vehicle for this story. His South Node in Sag reflects his original orientation and Gemini North Node symbolizes the direction life wants to take him, his destiny. SCENE FOR THE DAY: Inside Man, 2006; Director: Spike Lee. Clive Owen, Denzel Washington, Jodie Foster and Christopher Plummer star in this morality bank heist which twists and turns its way to payback for WWII Nazi crimes. Dalton Russell (Owens) has his own reason for setting up the robbery which has as its endgame of retrieving documents with which to take down a real criminal. The plot is based on a conventional bank-robbery template but infused with Lee's socio-political perspective of 'do the right thing.' A thief with Values. Russell's escape is based on the Taurean quality of patience, as he plans every detail step by step and remains hidden in a cell waiting for the right moment for action. In this opening scene, we witness Russell's direct Taurean approach as he breaks the acting fourth wall to address his audience. 

MARCH 27-29: GOOD ARIES NEW MOON

Ian Charleson stars as Eric Liddell, Scottish athlete who won the 400 meter race in the 1924 Olympics after refusing to run in the heats for his preferred 100 meter race. The qualifying races were on a Sunday and because of his religious beliefs, he chose not to enter. His life story inspired this Oscar winning film (Best Film, Best Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen, Best Costume Design and Best Original Musical Score). In this scene we see him overcome adversity with incredible passion and courage to complete a race in which he is knocked to the ground. A classic!

MARCH 25-27: CHALLENGING PISCES MOON

While Neptune-ruled Pisces is driven to merge with others and the universe in Divine Oceanic Bliss, the Last aspect of Saturn Square brings the ego back to the present for a Reality Check. SCENE FOR THE DAY: Michael Clayton, 2007; Director: Tony Gilroy. Michael Clayton (George Clooney) is a Fixer. He works for a legal firm which represents a chemical company guilty of toxic pollution. Clayton is brought in to 'handle' Arthur, one of the firm's partners (Tom Wilkinson) who has seen the light and flipped to the other side. Wilkinson and Clooney give magnificent performances, as witnessed in this scene. Arthur is a brilliant attorney, but is also in a kind of altered Neptunian state which has him oblivious to the danger in which he has placed himself. Michael confronts him and attempts to be his reality check. This is a must-see film!

Aquarius: The Water Bearer

MOON IN AQUARIUS from Wednesday, March 22 at 10:28pm EDT until Saturday, March 25 at 1:56am. LAST ASPECT OF MOON: Moon Sextile Saturn in Sagittarius. Saturn is the traditional ruler of Aquarius which makes this Moon strong. We might consider these few days a kind of resolution to the previous Capricorn Moon where Saturn was at odds with Uranus, the modern ruler of Aquarius. Here the two planets are bridged naturally. We can honor what works about old traditions while incorporating innovative perspectives and tools. We can accomplish a lot with this practically inspired attitude! Actions initiated during this period tend to have GOOD results. Note that we may feel more detached during the Aquarius Moon, or others may seem more aloof. Aquarius, the Fixed Air sign, is mentally oriented. We tend to think about feelings more than we emote. A theme for Uranus is the drive for separation, being unusual, not being one of the crowd. SCENE FOR THE DAY: Juno, 2007; Director: Jason Reitman...again! My all time favorite unique character is Juno, played by Ellen Page. She was created by screenwriter Diablo Cody who won an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. Page was also nominated for Best Actress. While being totally her own person, with highly creative linguistic abilities, she also seems a classic product of her generation. She's so mentally skillful and seemingly in control of her emotions that when she finally breaks down and cries, it's a real surprise. If you've never seen this glorious film, drop everything else and go laugh out loud at some of the best characters and dialogue in recent cinema. 

MARCH 20-22: VERNAL EQUINOX! CHALLENGING CAPRICORN MOON

MOON IS VOID OF COURSE from 6:37 am EDT until 11:31am Monday, March 20 when it ENTERS  CAPRICORN. It remains here until Wednesday, March 22 at 9:20am. LAST ASPECT OF MOON: Moon Square Uranus in Aries. SUN ENTERS ARIES Monday at 6:29am signaling the Spring or VERNAL EQUINOX. If only it felt that way in New England! Ruled by Saturn, this Moon period tends towards conventionality, restraint and creating structure. Our emotional reality is often serious and can extend to depression. We can't deny there's a lot to be feel deflated about. It's an authentic and appropriate response. The challenge is not to linger in this mode. Saturn wants to manifest and master. Capricorn reflects the Mountain/Sea Goat who climbs the ladder of ambition and success while accessing authentic emotional expression. The Last Square to Uranus is likely to reflect a radical upstart or set of circumstances which rocks the boat. While it may be upsetting, we must consider the possibility that the boat may need some alternate direction. This period wants to negotiate the old traditions with innovative techniques, technologies and perspectives. Be willing. Resistance to change is likely to create CHALLENGING results to actions initiated during this period.

VERNAL EQUINOX: The Sun is now at what astrologers call the 'Aries Point', 0 degrees 0 minutes Aries or naught, naught Aries as the Brits say. This is a strong focal point of the astrological system, as it's the First Degree of the zodiac and begins a new annual cycle. The Sun now crosses over the Celestial Equator (the plane of earth's equator projected out into space); the length of day and night is equal. Symbolically, this is a time for New Beginnings, Re-Birth and all other Aries qualities: the spark that ignites our will to live, creativity, passions, courage and leadership. It is an opportunity to  meditate on who we are and who we want to be in this new astrological year.

NOTE: I think it's important that we start paying attention to Capricorn Moons, given that the next next big outer planetary event towards which we are rocketing is the Saturn/Pluto cycle. A new cycle always begins with the Conjunction of the two planets in question. In January of 2020, Saturn conjuncts Pluto in Capricorn, beginning a new major energetic pattern reflecting these two archetypes. Very briefly, Saturn's archetype reflects traditional structures, rules, conventionality, conservatism, the past, the elderly and constraint. In its most optimum expression Saturn becomes Master of its field and manifests whatever it so desires. Pluto's archetype represents the underworld, resources, a deep transformation, the power of life and death forces,  depth psychology and the unknown. The Saturn/Pluto cycle has historically been one of tearing down old traditional structures that no longer serve their purpose and building up new forms more appropriate to our needs. It can also be viewed as a redistribution of power - who will manage our resources (Pluto) and thus be most likely to presume to control world circumstances. As always with Pluto indicators, integrity and ethical considerations are vital elements in this dance. And, as always we experience these significators both personally and collectively. SCENE FOR THE DAY: Up in the Air, 2009; Director: Jason Reitman. George Clooney plays Ryan Bingham, Termination Facilitator. He's hired by companies that are downsizing to fire employees for them. In this scene we see how he skillfully negotiates the upsetting scenario to steer his victim, played by J.K. Simmons, towards the perspective of 'the opportunity of a lifetime' - to get back on track with his original dream. As crass as we know this process to be, in the bigger picture of sudden changes of fortune and life-long structures, it behooves us to process the situation, grieve the loss, express ourselves authentically and then find that place of rebirth. 

MARCH 17-20: CHALLENGING SAGITTARIUS MOON

After a VOID OF COURSE MOON from 5:56pm EDT on Friday, March 17, the MOON ENTERS SAGITTARIUS at 11:00pm and remains until Monday, March 20 at 6:37am. LAST ASPECT OF MOON: Moon Conjunct Saturn in Sagittarius. Ruled by Jupiter, planet of growth, abundance and the search for meaning, our natural Sagittarius optimism may be constrained by Saturn now. Perhaps we've been overdoing things and are getting the message to control ourselves! Sag loves to travel to distant lands so this may be a time to stay home for awhile. Sagittarius/Jupiter expands while Saturn contracts; we may experience a 'start/stop' or 'push/pull' now. This Mutable Fire sign also signals a passion for Freedom which Saturn is eventually likely to block. Circumstances will tend to occur that stand in our way, at least temporarily, especially for women. Feeling depressed is not uncommon when Saturn conjoins the Moon. Just know: This too shall pass. SCENE FOR THE DAY: Ghandi, 1982; Director: Richard Attenborough. Ghandi stages his first non-violent protest in this scene initiating his quest for Freedom from British rule for Indians. Saturn shows up in the form of police beatings as he burns the required 'pass' Indians must carry at all times. Interestingly, Ghandi had Saturn in Sagittarius. The push/pull of striving for Sagittarian qualities and being stopped at almost every turn would be Saturn's life lesson for him. His Sun and Ascendant were both in Libra emphasizing, even more, his search for Justice. Libra's Air element fueled his Fire indicating the unrelenting nature of his resistance.

TRUMP NOTE: DT has Moon in Sagittarius which, since his election, is being transited by Saturn. This challenge to his Moon actually indicates a curbing of his natural show of arrogance as well as the constraint he is experiencing from The Feminine. This transit which limits him will last until mid-October. Our work for justice, freedom and equality must be maintained with great vigor during this period! We are building towards 2020 when Saturn conjoins Pluto in Capricorn and a new cycle begins. This planetary pattern appears to be dramatic for the US if we consider that 9/11 occurred when these two planets were in opposition on the US Ascendant/Descendant axis. Though Saturn/Pluto often reflects a tearing down of traditional structures, in the end, how we rebuild is, ideally, up to US. 

MARCH 15-17: EXCELLENT SCORPIO MOON

LAST ASPECT OF MOON: Moon in Scorpio Trine Sun in Pisces. Emotions run Deep during this Moon period with both Moon and Sun in Water signs. So deep we may penetrate into worlds heretofore unavailable to our conscious minds. SCENE FOR THE DAY: The Sixth Sense, 1999. Director: M. Night Shyamalan. Young Cole Sear (Haley Joel Osment) sees dead people (Pluto). He's just told his mother (Toni Collette) this long-held torturous secret in this scene. The people he sees don't know they've passed over and come to Cole for help. After going through the gates of hell not comprehending his Scorpionic Sensitivity, with the support of child psychologist Bruce Willis, he comes out the other end as self-confident healer. His seventh sense of self (Trine Sun) is restored and he develops yet another new sense for the bigger more inclusive picture (Sun in Pisces).

MARCH 13-15: GOOD LIBRA MOON

MOON IN LIBRA from 1:28am EDT on Monday, March 13 until Wednesday, March 15 at 6:05am. LAST ASPECT OF MOON: Moon Sextile Saturn in Sagittarius. Ruled by Venus, this Cardinal Air sign reflects the Archetype of Eros, Love, Balance and Justice. It also symbolizes Partnerships, Beauty, and What we Value. Therefore it also represents Money. Our attention is likely to be on Relationships during this Moon period. We want to make sure that they maintain equality - or at least are aesthetically pleasing! The Saturn Sextile Last Aspect would suggest the opportunity to manifest ways to make this happen. Here we have an older contract killer Leon (Jean Reno) who takes his pubescent, ballsy and recently orphaned neighbor Mathilde (Natalie Portman) under his wing. Her druggy family has been murdered by crooked DEA officer (Gary Oldman) and he's comin' after Mathilda next. She's in need of protection and asks Leon to trade his professional skills for doing his laundry. She thinks she's falling in love with him while he develops a parental caring for her. Theirs is a sweet kind of friendship - in an underworld-romantic-fantasy kind of way. This highly unusual Libran relationship also pulls Saturn's older-but-wiser quality into the mix, though we're never sure which one of them that is...and the dynamic between the two is so endearing we don't really care. 

March 10-12: CHALLENGING VIRGO FULL MOON

MOON remains in LEO until 12:05pm EST - See March 8. MOON IS VOID OF COURSE from 12:05pm until 5:07pm when it ENTERS VIRGO where it remains until Sunday, March 12 at 10:36pm. LAST ASPECT OF MOON: Moon Opposite Mercury in Pisces.  NOTE: Eastern Daylight Time begins at 2:00am on Sunday, March 12. Virgo is polarized by its planetary ruler, Mercury, so this period is likely to have difficulties in the area of Communication and our mental/analytic abilities. This Mutable Earth sign can be overly critical with a hard aspect. With the opposition it's likely that someone else will be criticizing us. Prominent attorney Henry Turner (Harrison Ford) is shot during an attempted robbery and because of the resulting brain injury finds his mental and motor skills dramatically impaired. In this scene his daughter Rachel, with whom he previously had a distant relationship, teaches him to read again. We witness how separate letters and syllables form words which give us the larger context of meaning through language. The joy expressed between father and daughter at Henry's ability to access this profound skill again is magnetic for the audience. This once eloquent orator, who used words primarily to conquer, will now find words from the heart and rediscover the unity of family.

MARCH 8-10: GOOD LEO MOON

Ruled by the Sun, this Fixed Fire sign thrives on being the center of its universe. It carries a regal air and sense of entitlement. But it also needs to earn your respect in a big way. SCENE FOR THE DAY: Twentieth Century Women, 2016; Director: Mike Mills. Annette Bening as Dorothea, exudes the Twentieth Century Mother Archetype to a tee! In her attempts to protect and support her son, Jamie, in becoming the man he is to be, she enlists two younger women as agents - Elle Fanning as Julie and Greta Gerwig as Abbie. All three are beautiful, forthright and powerful in their own ways. In this scene, Julie and Dorothea confront each other about their respective effects on young Jamie, played by Lucas Jade Zumann. With improvisational dancing and some hysterical lines, Billy Crudup, as boarder William, rounds out the cast as only he can do! Through the exquisite performances of this brilliant ensemble cast we also witness Dorothea, Julie and Abbie becoming the women they are to be. 

MARCH 4-6: GOOD GEMINI MOON

SCENE FOR THE DAY:Charlie Wilson's War, 2007; Director: Mike Nichols; Screenwriter: Aaron Sorkin. In this scene Julia Roberts, as Joanne Herring, right-wing Houston socialite with ties to the President of Pakistan, instructs Texas Senator Charlie Wilson (Rep.), how he is going to end the War in Afghanistan. Sharp as the safety pin with which she separates her mascaraed lashes, Herring takes on the Mars Warrior archetype to orchestrate the impossible. She knows what she wants, has all her information handy and fights to make it happen. In the end, Israelis and Muslims are are actually working together to defeat the Russians who they equally despise (this is supposed to be based on  true events). With Sorkin's brilliantly witty dialogue the scene is mind blowing in complexity, confidence and dry humor. These two characters have a 'special relationship.' And they sure do get things done!

SCENE FOR THE DAY: Loving, 2016; Director: Jeff Nichols. Ruth Negga and Joel Edgerton know the value of a piece of land. It means they have a place to be who they are: a black woman married to a white man in Virginia during the 1960's. After Richard Loving purchases the plot of land near his wife's family, they marry in Washington DC and are later arrested for living together in Virginia. They put everything on the line to fight for their right to live there as an interracial couple. Ruth writes a letter to then Attorney General Bobby Kennedy who responds with compassion; from there, their battle takes them all the way to the US Supreme Court. Taurus Moon Trine Pluto would be representative of the initial purchase of that acre of land which has a successful resolution! They win their battle when the Supreme Court determines unanimously that laws prohibiting interracial marriage are unconstitutional. As Pluto demands, many other couples' lives are changed as a result of their perseverance.
