Here we have an older contract killer Leon (Jean Reno) who takes his pubescent, ballsy and recently orphaned neighbor Mathilde (Natalie Portman) under his wing. Her druggy family has been murdered by crooked DEA officer (Gary Oldman) and he's comin' after Mathilda next. She's in need of protection and asks Leon to trade his professional skills for doing his laundry. She thinks she's falling in love with him while he develops a parental caring for her. Theirs is a sweet kind of friendship - in an underworld-romantic-fantasy kind of way. This highly unusual Libran relationship also pulls Saturn's older-but-wiser quality into the mix, though we're never sure which one of them that is...and the dynamic between the two is so endearing we don't really care.
